All-New Pizza & Pasta Down The Pub
28/11/2020
Despite Tier 2 restrictions, one Swindon pub is expanding on its theme of 'eating around the world' that has proved hugely successful as takeaway during the recent lockdowns.
The Brewers Arms new Eat Italia, which opens on Wednesday, 02 December, promises the very best handmade pizza & pasta.
Their front bar has been converted into a fabulous traditional, Italian-style eaterie and they've recruited experienced chef, Giovanni, to head up the kitchen.
Add in a great selection of Italian reds, whites, fizz & beer and landlord, Paul Studholme, is hopeful that the new venture will prove just as popular."We will still be serving our full 'eat around the world' menu in the main restaurant, but we wanted to try something really new in the front bar, where we have installed a pizza oven and made it very family friendly in a properly safe environment.
"There's not many places trying something new in these difficult times for pubs and restaurants, but I think what we offer to offer here is genuinely different and offers excellent value, especially in the run up to Christmas."

New Vegan Nights in Swindon
25/07/2019
Starts at The Crossing on Thursday 01 August
An exciting new vegan food and social event will be launched at The Crossing, The Brunel's food hub in Swindon town centre next week.
Indy’s Vegan Social is the brainchild of Victoria Capener who runs Indy’s Vegan Kitchen at The Crossing in The Brunel centre.
The free-to-attend event, which it is hoped will become a regular monthly feature, will be an opportunity for like-minded people to regularly get together to eat vegan food and to socialise.
Food, live music & talksThe evening will include entertainment from Swindon singer and musician Charlie Bath and will feature a talk by Emma-Jayne of Goatacre Farm Animal sanctuary who will be talking about life at the sanctuary, the animals they care for and volunteering opportunities.
Vegan food will, of course, be available from Indy’s Vegan Kitchen.
Victoria was inspired to put this social event together after attending London’s Brick Lane Vegan Nights. Victoria said: “many in the vegan community will know about Vegan Nights. I’ve been along and it’s excellent so I thought it would be great to have something like it in Swindon.
"My vegan food pod is in The Crossing and we have a great space here which really lends itself to gatherings such as this, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can achieve. There are often vegan events in the area but currently nothing regular where like-minded people can eat and socialise. An evening event also means that I will be able to bring my vegan food to those who cannot get to town during the day-time too”.

Smokin' in Chiseldon!
08/01/2019
Pub re-opens as Smokehouse Bar & Grill
What was The Patriots Arms in Chiseldon now not only has a new name & look but a completely new offering.
And quite the opposite to the modern trend of vegetarianism & vegan - it's aimed very much at lovers of meat & fish.
Only opened just before Christmas - with the interior still undergoing a transformation - local chef Kai Taylor wanted the get his new 'countryside smokehouse' food on the table as quickly as possible.
"It's been a great first couple of weeks," Kai told us, who came up with the idea & ethos of the The Chiseldon Smokehouse Bar & Grill, with Front of House manager Sam, and Head Chef Lewis alongside, "and although we've still plenty to do with how the pub will eventually look, the new menu is going down very well.""It really is the best of local, starting with the meat, which is supplied by TH Burroughs in Swindon, plus as much of our other fresh ingredients as possible.
"All the meat & fish is then smoked on the premises in our outside smokery to give it a really distinct flavour. Then low & slow-cooked the proper way.""Salmon, pulled pork, 30 day aged steak, burgers, chicken & sea food plus homemade vegetarian options are all the menu, but not like anything else you've tasted around here until now."
The new Chiseldon Smokehouse Bar & Grill is open for lunch and dinner 6 days-a-week. Find it in the centre of Chiseldon, about 1.5 miles from Jnct 15, M4.
See their website for more info & menus.

Lunchtime Revolution in Swindon Town Centre!
06/06/2018
Broccoli, Pizza & Pasta up next, as new Crossing Food Hub really takes off
A “lunchtime revolution” was the message that greeted shoppers and workers in Swindon Town Centre today as they came across a band of cheery, musical demonstrators waving placards and entertaining as they paraded around the town centre. The fun and carnival atmosphere was created by The Brunel Shopping Centre who organised the procession to promote The Crossing, the town’s new food hub situated within the shopping centre.
Jane Stewart, Deputy General Manager of The Brunel said: “The Crossing has really come to life recently now that most of the eateries are open and people have started to discover the excellent choices of food on offer. We wanted to do something to spread the word, especially to those who work in town and who may not have visited The Crossing yet.
The band was excellent and very entertaining. It was great to see the public, both young and not so young, dancing along with them! We’ve had great feedback from the event; it really brought some cheer into the town on a chilly and dull June day!”
The Crossing is fast becoming the food destination of choice for lunchtime shoppers and those working in Swindon town centre with new outlets now offering even more choice.
Next to open at The Crossing is Broccoli Pizza & Pasta, who expect to open within the next few days. A common sight across Dubai, this Italian-inspired restaurant offers healthy pasta and pizza using fresh ingredients cooked in front of you.
Diners can choose from eight different types of pasta, five choices of sauce and ingredients such as meatballs, chicken, beef, prawns and a range of vegetables and other extras. Lasagnes, soups and salads will also be available, as well as a breakfast menu offering a choice of scrambled eggs, fried eggs or omelettes.
Magnifica!

Our Mum about Town combines shopping with an all-day breakfast at Carluccio's
After a morning's bargain hunting, we were well and truly famished....
But you know when you don't fancy a traditional lunch? And would prefer a breakfast again at that time of day?
Well myself, my husband and daughter did exactly that when we tried the all-day breakfast menu at Carluccio’s in the Designer Outlet Village, Swindon.
I felt reassured that I would be in safe hands with this authentic, contemporary Italian Deli and Dining chain when it came to my food intolerances as they’re known for being very accommodating when it comes to taking out known allergens such as gluten (and they also use olive oil a lot which is the ‘good oil’ that many people who suffer with stomach problems will not have a reaction to.)
The team were exceptionally attentive when we arrived and made sure they noted all of the foods I could not eat and triple checked everything before it arrived on the table in front of me. All three of us went for the ‘Tradizionale Magnifica’ which consisted of our choice of eggs, pancetta, sausage, mushrooms, tomato, toasted ciabatta, tea or coffee or juice.
As we waited for the food, we enjoyed taking in the nice atmosphere in the restaurant and watching my daughter colour in her ‘Easter pack’ which was given to her when we first sat down. (All good restaurants know that to please the parents with the purses, you need to keep the little ones entertained!)
When the food came it was deliciously hot and was just the right sized portion (this particular dish is £10.95 and just comes in one size so even though my daughter had an adult dish, she managed to demolish a good percentage of her lunch!)
There are many other options available from the all-day breakfast menu, including a vegan and vegetarian version of what we had (see pic. below).
You can also enjoy pastries, eggs, breads, grains and a list of extras. Plus, there is obviously also the main menu, which is full of a vast selection of other culinary delights.
We were all so full up after a short while that myself and husband couldn’t manage a dessert but my seven year old daughter couldn’t resist rounding off her lunch with a classic chocolate chip cookie with milk (dipping action was a must.)
When you finish your meal at Carluccio’s in the Designer Outlet Village, you can also browse the shop that is based at the very front of the restaurant (where you can pick up some nibbles including a range of exquisite, mouth-watering chocolates) and ask the staff any questions you may have.
So impressed were we all of this restaurant experience (it was ran extremely efficiently) that, after reading their new 'Flavours of Spring' menu, we are going back for my birthday meal (& shopping treat!) in a few weeks (and I’m one fussy mum about town!!)

Mela Back in Old Town!
23/04/2018
New management & head chef start new era for popular restaurant
Indian-style tapas & the famous Hyderabadi Dum Biryani are just a number of fresh, new dishes diners at Mela can expect.
It had been renamed Siana for a short-time but after a buy-out and an all-new kitchen team it has reopened this week.Located in the heart of Old Town, Swindon, Head Chef & part-owner Ravi Yedhati (above), who previously honed his culinary skills for 7 years at the nearby Palm in Marlborough, has developed a menu of innovative Indian cuisine that can be enjoyed 7 days a week.
That includes Indian Tapas for the first time, which is initially available at lunchtimes.
"Our aim here at Mela is two-fold and very simple - to stand out from the crowd for our food, plus provide patient, attentive service in a relaxed environment that our customers will appreciate. It's the essential ingredients of the all-new Mela Restaurant," Ravi told us.
